Perceptions of Land Use

The Perceptions of Land Use Working Group is conducting a cross-cultural survey of the general public in each study location to asses perceptions of four types of land use. Based on primary land use types across study sites, we focus on Forests and Grasslands, Productive Forests, Farms, and Built areas.

  1. the past, current, and future prevalence of land use types in their area;
  2. impacts of land-use types on elements that compose the critical zone; and
  3. their concern about different elements of the critical zone.

We also assess whether their reasons for valuing nature, place identity and demographics (such as age) are associated with perceptions and preferences.
